Seamless Gutters & Gutter Guards for Midlands Homes
We roll-form your gutters on site to the exact length of your fascia — no seams to split, no joints to leak. Then we solve the real Midlands problem: loblolly pine needles that fill a gutter in one season.
How much do seamless gutters cost in the Columbia SC area?
Quick answer
Seamless aluminum gutters in the SC Midlands run $9–$16 per linear foot installed in 2026, so a typical 1,800 sq ft ranch needing about 160 feet with four downspouts lands between $1,450 and $2,400. Copper runs $28–$45 per linear foot. Beaver Roofing & Gutters forms all of it on site.
| Item | Installed price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 5" seamless aluminum K-style | $9 – $12 / linear ft | Standard on most Midlands homes |
| 6" oversized seamless aluminum | $12 – $16 / linear ft | Recommended under pines or on large roof areas |
| Half-round aluminum | $16 – $24 / linear ft | Historic and architectural homes |
| Seamless copper | $28 – $45 / linear ft | Yes, COPPER — 50+ year material, patinas naturally |
| 2x3 or 3x4 downspout | $85 – $165 each | 3x4 moves roughly 70% more water |
| Micro-mesh gutter guard | $8 – $14 / linear ft | Stainless mesh over aluminum frame |
| Underground downspout drainage | $18 – $32 / linear ft | Moves water away from Midlands red clay foundations |
| Fascia board replacement | $14 – $26 / linear ft | Common where old gutters overflowed for years |
Seamless means we bring a roll-forming machine to your driveway and produce each run in one continuous piece from a coil of painted aluminum. Sectional gutters from a box store are joined every 10 feet, and every one of those joints is a future leak once thermal cycling and pine debris get to it. The only seams on our installs are at corners and outlets, which are sealed and riveted properly.
Do I need 5-inch or 6-inch gutters in the Midlands?
Quick answer
Choose 6-inch gutters in the SC Midlands if your home sits under pines, has large roof planes, steep pitches, or long runs between downspouts. Six-inch gutters carry roughly 40% more water than 5-inch and clog far less with pine needles. Five-inch is adequate for small, simple roofs with good downspout coverage.
Columbia and Lexington average around 45 inches of rain a year, but that number hides the real design problem: our rain arrives in violent bursts. A summer thunderstorm dropping an inch in twenty minutes over a 1,200 square foot roof plane sends about 750 gallons at your gutters. Five-inch gutters with two downspouts cannot move it, so it sheets over the front lip, digs a trench in your mulch, and soaks the red clay against your foundation — which in the Midlands means crawlspace moisture, then wood moisture, then a call to a very different kind of contractor.
Our approach on every estimate: calculate roof drainage area per run, size the gutter to it, then place downspouts based on capacity rather than on where the last guy put them. We also re-pitch runs — about a quarter inch of fall per ten feet — because standing water in a gutter is what corrodes it and breeds mosquitoes.
Why do gutters fail so fast under Midlands pine trees?
Quick answer
Loblolly pine needles are the number-one gutter failure cause in the Midlands and any home within 90 minutes of West Columbia. Needles fall year-round, weave into mats that water cannot pass, hold moisture against the fascia, and slip through the wide gaps in cheap screens and foam inserts. Only fine micro-mesh reliably keeps them out.
Every roofer in the Midlands knows the pattern. A homeowner in Irmo cleans the gutters in November, feels good about it, and by March the valleys and gutters are packed again — because loblollies shed continuously, not just in fall. What follows is predictable:
- Needles dam the gutter, water backs up behind the drip edge and rots the fascia and soffit.
- Water freezes on a January night in a packed gutter, expanding and pulling hangers loose.
- Debris in valleys wicks water sideways under shingle courses — a leak that looks like a roof failure but starts as a debris problem.
- Overflow saturates the foundation soil, and red clay swells and shrinks with moisture, which is hard on slabs and crawlspace piers.
Our fix is a system, not a product: correctly sized 6-inch gutters, hidden hangers screwed into the fascia every 24 inches (not spike-and-ferrule), 3x4 downspouts where capacity demands, micro-mesh guards rated for pine needles, and valley debris addressed at the roof.
Are gutter guards worth the money in South Carolina?
Quick answer
Under pines in the Midlands, quality micro-mesh gutter guards are worth it — they eliminate two to four cleanings a year, protect fascia from overflow rot, and typically pay back in three to five years. Screens, foam inserts and brush guards are not worth it here; pine needles pass straight through or embed in them.
| Type | Cost / linear ft | Keeps out pine needles? | Verdict for the Midlands |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stainless micro-mesh | $8 – $14 | Yes | Best choice under pines and oaks |
| Perforated aluminum | $5 – $9 | Partially | Handles leaves, not needles |
| Reverse-curve / surface tension | $16 – $30 | Mostly | Works, but overshoots in hard downpours |
| Foam inserts | $3 – $6 | No | Needles embed; foam degrades and holds water |
| Brush / bottle-brush | $3 – $6 | No | Becomes a debris nest — we remove more than we install |
| Plastic snap-in screen | $2 – $5 | No | UV-brittle in SC sun, pops off in wind |
One honest caveat: no gutter guard is maintenance-free. Micro-mesh keeps debris out of the trough, but a mat of pine straw can still sit on top of the mesh and needs to be brushed or blown off — a five-minute job from a ladder instead of a two-hour scooping job with your arm in the sludge. Do you install copper gutters?
Quick answer
Yes. Beaver Roofing & Gutters fabricates and installs seamless copper gutters and half-round copper systems across the Midlands, typically $28–$45 per linear foot installed. Copper lasts 50+ years, needs no paint, and develops a natural patina that suits historic Columbia and custom Lake Murray homes.
Worth saying plainly, because the old version of this website got it wrong: the metal is copper. We fabricate copper K-style and half-round runs, copper downspouts with cast or fabricated collector heads, copper valley pans and copper accent roofing on bays and porches. Soldered copper joints — done properly with a hot iron and flux, not sealed with caulk — outlive nearly everything else on the exterior of a house.
Copper details matter in our climate. It cannot be fastened with aluminum or steel hangers (galvanic corrosion), it should not be run below a bare galvanized roof for the same reason, and it needs expansion allowance on long runs because copper moves. If a contractor quotes copper without mentioning any of that, ask more questions.
Should gutters be replaced when the roof is replaced?
Quick answer
If your gutters are over 15 years old, replace them during the roof job. Gutters must be detached to install new drip edge, so doing both at once eliminates a second mobilization and one full labor charge — typically saving Midlands homeowners $400–$800 versus replacing them separately later.
We are one company doing both trades, which is the entire reason "& Gutters" is in our name. The roof crew, the gutter crew, and the estimator all work from the same scope, so the drip edge, the gutter apron and the fascia detail line up the way they are supposed to. If you are getting a roof replacement and the gutters are tired, we will price both and show you the combined number.

Gutter questions from Midlands homeowners
How long does a gutter installation take?
Most homes are a single day. We roll-form each run on site, hang with hidden hangers into the fascia, set downspouts, seal and rivet corners, then test with a hose to confirm pitch and flow. Larger homes with copper or underground drainage tie-ins can run two days.
Can you tie my downspouts into underground drainage?
Yes. In Midlands red clay, getting roof water 10–15 feet away from the foundation matters more than most homeowners realize. We install solid PVC (not corrugated flex pipe, which silts up) with pop-up emitters or daylight outlets, sized to the downspout and pitched to drain.
What colors do seamless gutters come in?
Painted aluminum coil comes in roughly two dozen standard colors — white, almond, musket brown, clay, wicker, royal brown, black, and several grays — with matching downspouts and hangers. We bring color chips to the estimate and can match trim, fascia or roof color.
Do you repair gutters, or only replace them?
We repair. Re-pitching sagging runs, replacing failed hangers, re-sealing and riveting corners, replacing damaged sections and rotted fascia, and clearing clogs — all routine. If more than about a third of a home's gutters are failing, replacement usually costs less than chasing repairs.
Will gutter guards void my roof warranty?
Not the way we install them. Micro-mesh systems mount to the gutter and slide under the first shingle course without fasteners through the roofing, or attach to the gutter frame only. Guards that require screwing through the shingle field can create problems and warranty questions — we do not install those.
How often should gutters be cleaned in the Midlands?
Without guards and under pines: three to four times a year, realistically. With micro-mesh: an annual visual check and a quick brush-off of any needle mat on top. Homes with no overhanging trees can go to once a year, but almost nowhere in Lexington or Richland County is truly tree-free.

What Midlands homeowners say
Real reviews mention our crew by name. That is what happens when the same local people show up on every job.
★★★★★
“The crew lead came out the day after the May hail, chalked test squares and photographed every slope. When our State Farm adjuster only wanted to pay for two slopes, our estimator filed a supplement with the Xactimate line items and the full roof got approved. We paid our deductible and nothing else.”
★★★★★
“The install crew tore off and replaced 26 squares on our 1974 ranch off Leaphart Road in one day. They ran magnets over the driveway twice and hand-picked pine straw out of the beds. Truly the best dam roofers in the Midlands.”
★★★★★
“We had water staining in the hallway after a July thunderstorm. Our repair tech found the actual problem — a failed pipe boot, not the shingles — and fixed it for a couple hundred dollars instead of selling us a roof. That honesty is why we've since had them do our gutters.”
