How much do seamless gutters cost in the Columbia SC area?

Seamless means we bring a roll-forming machine to your driveway and produce each run in one continuous piece from a coil of painted aluminum. Sectional gutters from a box store are joined every 10 feet, and every one of those joints is a future leak once thermal cycling and pine debris get to it. The only seams on our installs are at corners and outlets, which are sealed and riveted properly.

Do I need 5-inch or 6-inch gutters in the Midlands?

Columbia and Lexington average around 45 inches of rain a year, but that number hides the real design problem: our rain arrives in violent bursts. A summer thunderstorm dropping an inch in twenty minutes over a 1,200 square foot roof plane sends about 750 gallons at your gutters. Five-inch gutters with two downspouts cannot move it, so it sheets over the front lip, digs a trench in your mulch, and soaks the red clay against your foundation — which in the Midlands means crawlspace moisture, then wood moisture, then a call to a very different kind of contractor.

Our approach on every estimate: calculate roof drainage area per run, size the gutter to it, then place downspouts based on capacity rather than on where the last guy put them. We also re-pitch runs — about a quarter inch of fall per ten feet — because standing water in a gutter is what corrodes it and breeds mosquitoes.

Why do gutters fail so fast under Midlands pine trees?

Are gutter guards worth the money in South Carolina?

One honest caveat: no gutter guard is maintenance-free. Micro-mesh keeps debris out of the trough, but a mat of pine straw can still sit on top of the mesh and needs to be brushed or blown off — a five-minute job from a ladder instead of a two-hour scooping job with your arm in the sludge. Do you install copper gutters?

Worth saying plainly, because the old version of this website got it wrong: the metal is copper. We fabricate copper K-style and half-round runs, copper downspouts with cast or fabricated collector heads, copper valley pans and copper accent roofing on bays and porches. Soldered copper joints — done properly with a hot iron and flux, not sealed with caulk — outlive nearly everything else on the exterior of a house.

Copper details matter in our climate. It cannot be fastened with aluminum or steel hangers (galvanic corrosion), it should not be run below a bare galvanized roof for the same reason, and it needs expansion allowance on long runs because copper moves. If a contractor quotes copper without mentioning any of that, ask more questions.

Should gutters be replaced when the roof is replaced?
